I always seem to wander back here when I get the urge to write in a diary. Like this place is the only place on the internet that is less branded then my Portfolio site or my pet project pages so I can write whatever I want. Neat. Yes.
So anyway, the name of this Journal. To preface a little, my partner Redline (aka Jason Ballantyne) is an incredible designer/Art Director. He has a way with logos that I will never really understand and a complete mastery of all the principals of design that makes me want to wallop him for being just too damn good. And I am also a designer! Working as an in-house designer at a promotions place (yay!) where I specialize in production for now, and some illustration. So we decided that we would go on an adventure and found some killer prices for tickets to Iceland! Snag yours between October 12th and 22nd and you too can go to Iceland for $600 round trip taxes in! (And we can grab super expensive Icelandic beers, yes! Do it!)
I was thinking a few days ago, what's the best way for two designers to get amped up about a trip to Iceland?! Brand....everything. I know DA isn't as stoked about the whole design/branding bidness, but hear me out! From the stationery that everything will be printed on, illustrated thank you cards to leave at the hostels we're staying in all the way to labels for our travel amenities! Everything will be branded for the general public's viewing pleasure.
I'm currently working on designing a map that will be used to track the sights we want to see, and Redline is designing a logo and a set of icons for all the destinations for the map. The best part is that this will be the first time being Art Directed by my partner and I'm incredibly excited about the learning opportunity there. I'll be working on the branding based off the logo he designs, and will incorporate a lot of elements from the Icelandic landscape. This branding will be used on everything from our e-tickets, to-do lists, instruction sheets for Redline's Sister while she takes care of our house all the way to a specialized wine label for the wine we get her, coasters to leave in bars to replace the ones we take and wraps for some boxes with some pretty special jewelry in them
The possibilities are thrilling and I can't wait to get started!
So that's all my big news for now! I will probably post on my HelloSweetie sites about it when it's a little more "in the works" but I needed to be excited with at least one of my online communities. If you have any ideas for something I can build into the branding, please let me know! I would love any suggestions.
